A Nerja Paradise Rentals favourite, the San Isidro Festival (the Pilgrimage of San Isidro, the patron saint of farmers) is on the 15th of May each year.
The day begins with a Rociera Mass in the church of El Salvador, where social clubs, dance groups and friends gather. Thus, the pilgrimage begins from the Balcón de Europa, from where the saint, mounted on a cart pulled by oxen around 12:30h is taken to the Nerja caves in Maro.
Behind the patron, a row of carts, horses and floats decorated cheerfully for the occasion is formed, in which people dressed in rociero costumes participate.
While the road is made to the hermitage of San Isidro and at each stop people eat, drink, dance and sing sevillanas.
Once the saint is left in his hermitage, people continue the party until late at night.
It is important to note that in recent years the eve of San Isidro has been lived and enjoyed as a party night with a great youthful atmosphere with music, songs and dances.
In addition to the traditional tributes to the patron saint of farmers and the popular pilgrimage on the 15th of May, there will be free concerts in the Plaza de España by Nerja artists Nuria Fergó and Antonio Cortés on the 13th, and the popular spanish singer La Húngara on the 14th. These concerts will start at around 10 pm.
