One of the highlights of the local festival calendar is the Festival Frigiliana 3 Culturas which takes place at the end of August each year in the beautiful pueblo blanco of Frigiliana – perched on the hillside above Nerja. Many plan their holidays in and around Nerja to coordinate with this special event!

The festival for 2019 kicked off yesterday, Thursday the 22nd August 2019 and will run until Sunday the 25th August – culminating in a firework display on Sunday night at midnight. With activities throughout the day and well into the night, the festival is steeped in history, celebrating the three main cultures which have influenced Frigiliana – the Christians, Jews and Moors.

The small town comes alive with music, dance, storytellers, stalls selling goods relating to the three cultures and creations of local artisans. A highlight is the “Ruta de Tapas” – the “Tapas Trail” – pick up your free map at the information centre when you get to Frigiliana and follow the map to get stamped at each Tapas stop. If you manage to complete the route, you will get a free t-shirt!

As you can imagine, the festival drawers big crowds so plan your trip in advance and avoid driving – parking is a problem! Cheap buses are provided from Nerja and leave form the main bus station which run late into the night.
