The Capital of Andalusia, Seville exudes history, culture and tradition. They call it “the magical city” for a reason. The mixed heritage of Roman and Muslim cultures for several centuries gave it its intricate architecture, gold and iron crafts, educational importance and commercial dominance on the Guadalquivir River. For much of the Middle Ages, Seville was the most developed and cosmopolitan city in Europe.<\/p>\n

Today, that vast heritage is obvious as you walk through its streets. Strolling through Seville is an art. There is so much to see that it is impossible to see it all  – but you will quickly fall in love with the magical city and want to carry on exploring.<\/p>\n

Seville’s most famous square is the Plaza de Espa\u00f1a – voted the world’s second most interesting tourist spot by TripAdvisor users in 2018. The magnificent square was built in 1929 to mark the occasion of the Universal Exhibition; a tribute to Spanish culture and, at the same time, a gesture of friendship to the peoples of Latin America.<\/p>\n

The Royal Alcazar is Europe’s oldest palace still in use today and can be visited in one or two hours. And of course, don’t miss Europe’s largest Gothic cathedral. Wander around the narrow streets of the Santa Cruz area in the Jewish quarter, stroll along the banks of the Guadalquivir river dominated by the Golden Tower – and breath in the peace and tranquility of the Maria Luisa Park – Seville will enchant you with its poetic atmosphere.<\/p>\n

But some of the best places in Seville are found by taking a wrong turn. Like when you stumble into a time-worn taverna peddling crisp local sherry or come across the rickety home of Seville-born painter Diego Vel\u00e1zquez. Although the cobbled streets and alleyways that surround it are worthy of close inspection, this enchanting city has much more to offer a little further afield.<\/p>\n

Of course – no trip to Seville would be complete with sampling its famous Flamenco – get up and follow the locals as they dance the Sevillana – you’ll be surprised at how quickly you can pick up the basic steps! <\/p>\n

Seville is a 2 hour 40 minute drive from Nerja – and whilst it is possible to make a day trip to this wonderful city, we would highly recommend that you spend at least one night there to really make the most of it. There is also a regular public coach service run by ALSA from Nerja.<\/p>\n
